According to an article in the Alaska Journal (Columbia Gorge CC teaching wind farm worker skills, Friday, March 12, 2010), "The turbines sprouting across Eastern Washington and Oregon will need more than 700 trained technicians over the next five to 10 years" ... with an average starting wage of $19.50 per hour."
The beauty from the air reminded me of the night I watched the Northern Lights in North Dakota. That night the lights lit the sky like gauze veils of emerald green; on our Bend flight, the gauze veils were silver white or pastel graphite gray.
Bruce Danielson met us at the Bend airport and drove us to his place so we could "kick tires."
The familiar approach from the south-- the lime lakes and then finally White Stone Mountain-- now makes my toes wiggle with excitement: we're home!
