Why am I so emphatically AGAINST GMOs?
Monsanto, Dow, Dupont control the FDA. Michael Taylor fast-tracked GMO crops into our food, and as the czar of the FDA continues to ignore nine out of ten Americans who do want GMOs labeled. The corporate control of the FDA has asssured that our government ignores the desire of its citizens as well as scientists and doctors in favor of the almighty corporation.
Animal feeding studies have causally related GMO food to reproductive problems, immune system, gastrointestinal problems as well as accelerated aging, dysfunctional regulation of insulin and cholesterol organ damage.
There are two basic reasons to genetically modify food crops. One is to allow the plant to withstand herbicide applications. These are "herbicide tolerant" -- made tolerant of the herbicide by injecting a gene from a bacteria that allowed the plant to "drink" the herbicide, most often Round Up. Now you can spray a field with Round Up and it will kill the other plants but not the genetically modified crop-- commonly corn, canola or soy, though there are others-- and it will drink it up (where it stays in the plant) but withstand the killing effect of the poison.
Would you drink a teaspoon of Round Up? No? Well guess again: That bottle of pop you're drinking was made with high fructose corn sugar... and it was made with GMO corn. That vegetable oil you made your salad dressing with? GMO. So drink away.
The other GMO crop contains a gene that actually produces a pesticide. This was achieved by inserting a gene from a soil bacteria that produces a toxin that kills insects into the plant. These GMO seeds are called BT (named for the soil bacteria). Although the application of the insecticide is less, there is a substantial net gain of insecticide produced by all these plants greatly increases the amount of insecticides and that the BT crop displaces. The process of approval of these crops do not evaluate the effect of ingesting these crops, but there are studies that point to profoundly disturbing effects: in cooked soy, there is 7 times more of a known allergen, and doubling of an anti-nutrient that blocks absorption; genes in corn were switched off rather than on by ingesting these new genes. In some cases this produces allergens. Some proteins change shapes becoming a carcinogen.
Aren't you excited to eat BT insecticides? Well have at it: Drink milk. Have a tortilla or a sandwich on whole wheat or plain old white bread! Yummy yummy!!! Love them GMOs!
Or avoid it: Drink organic milk. Eat an organic tortilla. Unless you eat organic food, you can ASSUME you're eating a genetically modified meal.
Many people don't realize that this new modification is radically and profoundly different from the millennium-old practice of saving the best seeds and planting the "offspring" of the best of the best seeds the following year.
Genetically Modified Seeds are modified through cell corruption that could not occur naturally. The cells can be weakened with e coli or pierced with microscopic shards of gold. Then the cell is left open for a brief period of time to corruption of genes that otherwise would never have been able to insert itself into this plant.

The GMO genie is out of the bottle. There is no way to put it back. But if we all demand that our government at least labels these heinous foods, we can choose to avoid them. As it is, we have no idea when we are ingesting these FrankenFoods. But there are still greater threats to our foodchain: Terminator Genes-- a gene that causes the second generation of seeds to be sterile have not yet been released. And if we do not speak as an emphatic single voice, the almighty powerful corporation will succeed in releasing this new Frankencrop.

Dow's Agent Orange corn is being rubberstamped through the approval process at USDA. It has not been adequately tested for our health or safety, and it should not be approved. We have until February 27 to tell the USDA to reject Agent Orange corn.
If the USDA approves Dow's Agent Orange corn, more dangerous chemicals will definitely be used on our crops, we'll see new resistant weeds and people may get sick. Urge the USDA to reject Agent Orange corn!

Resources of American-made products
It might surprise you that not everything we want or need can only be produced cheaply in China or Mexico. You might even find the "Made in USA" things like light bulbs and dryer sheets to be less expensive than their name-brand foreign-made counterparts. Many people read food labels.
