_9 Year-old Unregistered Palomino Mare For Sale
_See Video: Part 1
Part 1 begins with Bonnie running with my herd of horses. You'll see her forward and happy attitude and you'll be treated to seeing her athletic flying lead changes. Part 1 goes on to present uncut footage of a hoof trim as well as footage showing her ground manners-- walking, going through gates, and being groomed, tacked and mounted.
See Video: Part 2
Part 2 contains "arena" work. I am not a confident rider; I was crushed when a horse flipped on me in 1990 (luckily she only broke my leg), but my cellular fear of being hurt again makes me wary of traveling at high speeds. (Even a trot makes me nervous). I'm sure Bonnie was "balky" due to my "mixed signals"-- [Canter-- OH NO! DON'T!] I think that if she had a rider who knew how to properly cue her to canter, she would do much better. During our entire "arena" work out I felt that she took awfully good care of me.

3-Bell Palominos
The Palomino rabbit is an excellent meat rabbit. Because of the colors (Golden and Lynx) it is not raised as widely as New Zealand or California rabbits.
Palominos are a commercial meat breed. Because they have smaller bone structure, they produce a higher ratio of meat on the carcass. Adult bucks weigh around 8-10 pounds while does weigh around 9-11.
Palominos bred for show have big rear ends as their shoulders grow last. By the time they are adults, their proportions are correct. Because the meat rabbits’ shoulders grow early, by age 4-6 months, they cannot compete as show entries as their shoulders will have grown too wide to present the desirable gentle slope toward the hindquarters.
The Palomino was “created” by Mark Youngs of Coulee Dam in the 1940’s to ‘50’s. Typically they have a gentle temperament. They are said to be one of the loveliest house pets a rabbit owner could hope to find!

3 Bell Standard Chinchillas
Like the Palomino breed, Standard Chinchilla Rabbits have great dispositions. They are also a good choice for a meat breed as they have a medium bone structure and well-filled loins. Bucks weigh between 5-7 pounds, while does weigh 5.5 to 7.
The Chinchilla color is striking. When blown backwards, a beautiful band pattern is exposed. The base of the hair shaft is a dark slate blue. The next color is pearl. The surface is both pearl band and black tipped guard hairs. The overall effect should be one of waves of black and pearl together throughout the coat. They should also have black ear lacing on the top rounded part of the ear, pearl eye circles enclosing the eyes, and pearl nose and jowl markings. Bellies and the area under the tail should be white.
Standard “Chins” resulted from selective breeding of wild gray Garenne rabbits to Blue and Himalayan rabbits. Subsequent litters of Blue and Himalayans were bred to create the breed we know as Standard Chinchillas.

Have skids; will travel!
We use horsepower for skidding rabbits from one grazing ground to the next one!

It's been a long summer for the rabbits. Hot weather, sometimes record-breaking temperatures, rendered them "hard aground" under the shade of the cedar trees. Even with the added comfort of the shade, they appreciated their frozen water bottles, delivered daily.
Now they're sailing the green seas of the eastern pasture. They "up anchor" each day and sail to the next patch of greener grass. |
3-Bell Beef
Wagyu-Angus cross and Angus-Hereford cross (Posted: October, 2009)
Our "moos" were purchased at three and four months old. They were orphaned at birth and had been bottle fed. We didn't quite "get" the implications of this.
Oie Vay.
You haven't really lived until you've been mugged by three 300-pound juvenile steers intent on sucking.
But I digress.
This month, October, the steers will finally have run out of their last bag of milk replacer. Each day they get 20 ounces of milk dissolved in hot water. This is poured over 15 pounds of grain. Oh, they do look forward to their "cereal."
This winter they will have a Smörgåsbord -- an all-you-can-eat round bale of alfalfa hay every night.
Come spring, they will be out on pasture again. We plan to give them a couple of months on pasture before offering them for sale as meat.

Hay!
We did it! We got our first hay field planted, grown and harvested! Praised be the Lord, The Saints, and the cooperation of the planets (we had our doubts about the latter for a while)!
And MANY thanks to our good neighbors, Gary and Marvin Grillo, who made the first harvest possible!
We are sold out of hay now, but will be offering more next year!

3-Bell Pigs
I was just reading an article called "With Corn Prices Rising, Pigs Switch to Fatty Snacks" on a website called Mindfully.org in which pig food was discussed. Chocolate chips? Trail mix tainted with cardboard? Candy bars? French fries?
That's scary!
When one purchases pork from a supermarket, how could he imagine what that pig had been fed? How was that pig housed? What was his quality of life?
We are committed to raising animals as naturally as possible.
Pigs too.
Izzy had her first litter (video of the birth is posted on our blog page). She had five beautiful little carrot top daughters! And four of them have been sold to a family in Yakima who will be showing them this spring at the fair!
We will be keeping One-Spot as Izzy's companion pig and our next breeder pig.

The Sickle Bar Mower is now ready for ACTION!
Also, many thanks to Dean Lease, without whose help and support here at the 3-Bell Ranch, we would not have achieved the miracles we saw this summer. He was responsible for overseeing the installation of permanent set irrigation on 15 acres, maintaining and operating the ASV (which proved to be a great asset in the irrigation project), completing the restoration of our "new" horse-drawn sickle bar mower, purchasing and repairing our little John Deere, as well as getting other equipment needs addressed. What a talented and gifted man!
The world is full of heros and these men (Marvin, Gary and Dean) are three of the best.
